BIO

Ferran Gorrea (Llíria, 1995) is a Spanish musician, saxophonist and improviser based in Zurich since 2017.

Known for his versatility and strong commitment to contemporary music, Ferran collaborates actively with composers of his generation, exploring sonic experimentation and pushing the boundaries of the saxophone’s expressive possibilities.

Free improvisation is the artistic expression that best defines Ferran’s musical identity. Under the mentorship of renowned percussionist and improviser Lucas Niggli during his studies at the ZHdK, he developed a unique musical language for improvisation, allowing him to explore the saxophone’s full range of possibilities with precision and creativity.

Ferran has performed regularly with prestigious groups such as the Zurich Saxophone Collective or 2.13 SAX, Slide and Delirium.

His openness and collaborative spirit have led him to work with diverse artists and ensembles, including Steamboat Switzerland, Sigma Project Ensemble, Billiger Bauer, JODOQ, Matt Ilda, Thymian and many others.

He has appeared at renowned festivals such as Unerhört! (Zurich, CH), Zurich meets Seoul (Seoul, KR), 18th World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb, HR), Mallorca Saxophone Festival (Palma de Mallorca, ES), Ensems (Valencia, ES) or Sax & the City (Zurich, CH). His performances have also taken him to prestigious concert venues, including Het Concertgebouw (Amsterdam, NL), Tonhalle Maag (Zurich, CH) or Auditorio Nacional (Madrid, ES).

Ferran Gorrea was awarded the 1st Prize at the ZHdK Contemporary Music Competition in 2022, 2021 and 2019. From 2017 to 2020, he received support from the Valencian Culture Institute (IVC) to pursue his studies.

Ferran finished his Bachelor of Saxophone at COSCyL (Salamanca, ES) in 2017, being granted the Extraordinary Bachelor Final Prize.
