Ferran Gorrea i Muñoz is a Spanish musician, saxophonist and improviser based in Zurich, Switzerland.

He shows a very versatile profile with a strong commitment with contemporary music and the composers of the current generation, but also including in his work the most renowned works of the traditional saxophone repertoire as well as transcriptions from the baroque to the romantic period.

The free improvisation is also a very significant side of his personality as an artist. Guided by the renowned percussionist and improviser Lucas Niggli, Ferran has developed his own musical language for the improvisation.

Ferran Gorrea is an active musician also in the field of chamber music. He has been part of many ensembles such as the Zurich Saxophone Collective, 2.13 SAX, D’Addario Saxophone Ensemble, Slapsus Quartet or Sigma Project Ensemble among others.

He has performed in music festivals like Zurich meets Seoul (Seoul, South Korea), 18th World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb, Croatia), Mallorca Saxophone Festival (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Ensems (Valencia, Spain) or Sax & the City (Zurich, Switzerland); and also in relevant concert halls such as Het Concertgebouw (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Tonhalle Maag (Zurich, Switzerland) or Auditorio Nacional (Madrid, Spain).

Ferran Gorrea was awarded the 1st Prize at the ZHdK Contemporary Music Competition in 2022, 2021 and 2019. From 2017 to 2020 he has been supported by the Valencian Culture Institute (IVC) to pursue his studies. In 2016, he is awarded, together with Slapsus Quartet, the 1st Prize at the Chamber Music Competition “Juventudes Musicales de Ávila” and also at the Chamber Music Competition “Ciudad de Salamanca”.

Ferran finished his Saxophone Bachelor at COSCyL (Salamanca, Spain) in 2017, being granted the Extraordinary Bachelor Final Prize. At the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich) he completed a Master of Arts in Music Performance in 2020 and a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy in 2022, both in the class of the renowned saxophonist and conductor Lars Mlekusch.

Nowadays he teaches Saxophone at the Musikschule Fislisbach.

Ferran Gorrea is a JLV Sound Ambassador since 2021.
